Morgex, Valle d'Aosta. The trail climbs from the village up the slope to a small hut. Scree and short grass underfoot, open hillside, cows by the road, bells mixing with the wind.

On the ridge it opens into a wide panorama, with Mont Blanc in the distance against darker ridges and old snow in the shadows. The hut sits on the edge. Simple, nothing hidden.

Within minutes the light shifts and the warm tones turn cold blue.
