We drove to Hungary. One day in Budapest, more a drive-through than a stop; there wasn't much time.

Then on to Lake Balaton: flat and shallow, wide rather than deep. Off season, so quiet and almost empty.

The lake runs for tens of kilometres and dominates the landscape far more than the map suggests.
